  • Ford Smith, one of the company’s founders, calls on his background in the hospitality and construction industry as president/director of development for BayStar Hotel Group. Smith oversees all aspects of development for BayStar. Smith has been in charge of the development of four new-construction hotels as well as a renovation/repositioning of three other existing hotels.

  • Prior to founding BayStar, Smith was president of Metropolis Developers, a residential developer specializing in custom homes in the Tampa Bay area. While at Metropolis, Smith has overseen the construction of over 60 custom homes. Smith has also been involved with land development and sales of outparcels.

  • Prior to starting Metropolis in 1994, Smith served as marketing director for the Tigert Company, a South Tampa custom homebuilder. There he was responsible for the design and implementation of all marketing and advertising campaigns for Tigert’s multiple residential developments.

  • Prior to Tigert, Smith spent 11 years in the full-service restaurant business, starting in the “back of the house” operations and eventually becoming part owner of one of the most popular full-service restaurants in the Tampa Bay area at the time. He was responsible for overseeing all aspects of its operation.

  • Smith graduated with honors from Tampa College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He is also a State Certified Class “C” General Contractor and an Instrument-rated private pilot.
