BAYSTAR HOTEL GROUP TO DEVELOP HAMPTON INN IN
DOWNTOWN LARGO
Developer’s ties to area date back to his
youth
TAMPA (May 31, 2004) — BayStar Hotel Group, LLC is
developing a five-story, $8 million Hampton Inn &
Suites Hotel on East Bay Drive in downtown Largo. With
traditional guest rooms and studio suites, the 92-room,
63,000-square-foot hotel will serve business and leisure
guests. 4th Q 2005
The Tampa-based hotel development and management company is
purchasing the 2.6-acre site from the City of Largo.
BayStar Hotel Group plans to break ground this summer and
open the Hampton Inn in the first quarter of 2005.
The new hotel will have 2,000 square feet of meeting space
including two meeting rooms that can be combined to
accommodate meetings of up to 100 in addition to a smaller
board room. Amenities will include a heated pool, an
exercise facility and a Suite Shoppe sundry store. The
Hampton Inn will also offer a complimentary Continental
Breakfast, free in-room movies, two-line telephones with
free local calls, high-speed Internet access. The room
rates will range from $89 to $139. Like all BayStar Hotels,
the Largo Hampton Inn welcomes pets.
The Hampton Inn & Suites – Largo Towne Center
will be located at the intersection of Seminole Boulevard
at East Bay Drive across from Largo Central Park.
“It’s clear that Largo is becoming a growth
community and the area’s location near a business hub
and the beaches makes it appealing to business as well as
leisure travelers,” said George Glover, chairman and
CEO of BayStar Hotel Group. “The hotel’s
amenities will also be attractive to community
organizations in need of meeting space.”
It’s a homecoming of sorts for Glover, who grew up in
the area and recently returned as a resident. His first job
was making popcorn at the Largo Theatre, once owned by his
father, Henry. The elder Glover, who developed and operated
theaters, was also active in the local banking and civic
community.
His history with the area gives Glover a perspective on the
impact of the community’s growth on property values.
His father paid $80,000 for a 20-acre parcel near downtown
Largo in 1965 for the Thunderbird Drive-In. The 2.6-acre
Hampton Inn site cost $800,000.
