NEW ART EXHIBIT AT THE HOTEL INDIGO DOWNTOWN ST.
PETERSBURG
TAMPA (June 29, 2010) - The lobby of downtown St.
Petersburg's Hotel Indigo has been transformed into an art
gallery featuring the eye-catching portraits of Johniene
Papandreas.
The public is invited to view the year-long exhibit at 234
Third Avenue North in St. Petersburg between 8 a.m. and 9
p.m. daily. Visitors can enjoy the art while having
breakfast, dinner or drinks in the cafe.
“I am fascinated with subtext - reading between the
lines and tuning into the unspoken,” said Papandreas.
“Mine are portraits of imagined selves, damaged,
passionate, and hidden selves - expressions capturing a
moment thought private and unobserved, before the walls go
up.”
Her evocative works frame their subjects to create
expressions charged with mystery, sensuality and drama.
Working by brush on heavyweight muslin, Papandreas uses
casein, a paint derived from milk or soy protein, to create
the large works with sizes the ranging from 27” x
74” to 46” x 75.” Most are available for
purchase as originals or prints on canvas, and exhibit will
evolve, changing out the paintings as the year-long show
continues.
“Featuring St. Petersburg artists fits the
'neighborhood story image' the Indigo Brand is
creating,” said George Glover, CEO of BayStar Hotel
Group, the hotel's owner. “We are fortunate to be
located in the heart of a thriving arts community and proud
to display the amazing works of local artists. When
Johniene returns to the area in the fall, we'll have a
'meet the artist' party.”
This is the second artist featured by the Hotel Indigo,
which is owned by BayStar Hotel Group. Rob Epstein's
TROPIKON series hung in the lobby most recently. The Hotel
Indigo is also a presenting sponsor at the Carnival of
Glass event surrounding the grand opening of the Chihuly
collection at the Morean Arts Center.
About the Artist
Johniene Papandreas lives and paints in St. Petersburg half
the year and in Provincetown, Massachusetts the other half.
She transformed a design career in the New York theatre
into a business designing corporate theater and events
before pursuing her passion for the fine arts. She has
paintings and commissions in numerous private national and
international collections and owns a gallery in
Provincetown. She found her way to art through a circuitous
route, after pursuing a career designing for the Theatre
and owning a firm that designed corporate events and
environments in New York City.
